    Abstract

A good located of Wi-Fi is needed to optimize the power levels that received from the transmitter to a receiver. The characteristics that most influential in determining the performance of a Wi-Fi system is the value of power level, because it can be used to determine the coverage area of a transmitter (access point). This paper has been researched power level measurements from an access point in 12 laboratories at New Building PENS-ITS, the measurement criteria include the type of propagation path used, which is Line Of Sight (LOS) and Non Line Of Sight (NLOS). Received power level is measured using the FSH View with horn antenna, the distance measurement is based on changes in the working frequency of receiver antenna on the Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz. Measurement data about received power level is used to simulate the laying of the Wi-Fi systems in order to obtain optimal coverage area. The research result was value of received power level decreases as the added distance from the transmitter to the receiver. From the measurement result obtained that at -60 dBm, there were no signal was captured on FSH View Keyword : Genetic Algoritm, Pathloss, Wi-Fi, Power level, Coverage Area.
